Vairana Kannana?

Kannadaasan and Vairamuthu are great film poets.

The karpanai of Vairamuthu and Vaarthaijaalam of Kannadasan is amazing !!

Here are some samples

Sample 1: Vairamuthu in Nizhalgal

Idhu oru pon maalai pozhudhu
vaana magal naanugiraal
vaeru udai poonugiraal

The poet personifies the evening sky as a girl and says: she is changing clothes from evening to night, and blushes out of shyness because everybody is seeing her! Can anybody refer to redness in sky during dusk any better than this?

Aayiram nirangal jaalamidum
raathiri vaasalil kolamidum
vaanam iravukku paalamidum
paadum paravaigal thalamidum
poomarangal saamarangal...

Birds would sing and clap welcoming the night; evening sky would establish the bridge for the coming of the night; all the trees would sway hither and thither and produce gentle breeze welcoming the night; the appearance of thousands of colourful lights all over the world would be magical; it would be like a 'kolam' in the gates of night!

Sample 2: Vairamuthu in PayaNangaL Mudivadhillai

ilaiya nilaa pozhigaradhae idhayam varai nanaigiradhae
ulaap poagum maegam kanaak kaanudhae vizhaakkaanudhae vaanamae

The mild moon is spreading its rays and it reaches even our hearts.. The roaming clouds are dreaming..and the whole sky is celebrating...

(ilaiya nilaa)

varum vazhiyil pani mazhaiyil paruva nilaa dhinam nanaiyum
mugileduththu mugam thudaiththu vidiyum varum nadai pazhagum
vaana veedhiyil maega oorvalam kaanumboadhilae aarudhal tharum
paruva magal vizhigalilae kanavu varum

On the way, the moon takes bath everyday in the dew rain and then uses the cloud like a towel !to wash its face, (after it gets fresh) it practises dance till morning !
In the streets of sky, there 's the procession of clouds which is so soothing to the eyes.. These are dreams in the eyes of nature..

(ilaiya)

mugilinangal alaigiradhae mugavarigal tholaindhanavoa
mugavarigal thavariyadhaal azhudhidumoa adhu mazhaiyoa
neela vaanilae velli oadaigal oaduginradhae enna jaadaigal
vin veliyil vidhaiththadhu yaar nava manigal

( Classic !! )
The clouds are roaming around, did they lose their address? and because they lost their address, are they crying and is that rain?
There are silver streams in the blue sky, and what a play it is ..
and who seeded those beautiful pearls (stars) in the expanse of skies..

Sample 3: Kannadaasan in Mullum Malarum

sendhaazhampoovil vandhaadum thenral en meedhu moadhudhammaa
poovaasam maedai poadudhammaa penpoalae jaadai paesudhammaa
ammammaa aanandham (2)

The breeze from the "Sendhaazham poo" strikes me and the smell puts a stage and makes action like a girl and.. it is so nice !!

(sendhaazhampoovil)

valaindhu nelindhu poagum paadhai mangai moagak koondhaloa
mayangi mayangich chellum vellam paruva naana oodaloa
aalankodi maelae kili thaen kanigalaith thaeduthu
aasaik kuyil bhaashaiyinri raagam enna paadudhu
kaadugal malaigal dhaevan kalaigal

The path along the mountains ( the hair pin bends ) are like the attractive koodhal of a young girl.. The slow river, is like the shyness of girl in nature
The parrots are searching for the fruits in the trees..The koels are singing what kind of songs without lyrics..The forests, mountains are God 's "master pieces "

(sendhaazhampoovil)

azhagu migundha raajakumaari maegamaagap poagiraal
jarigai neliyum saelai kondu malaiyai moodap paarkiraal
pallam silar ullam ena aen padaiththaan aandavan
pattam tharath thaeduginraen engae andha naayagan
malaiyin kaatchi iraivan aatchi

The cloud , a beautiful princess, is going and she strikes the mountains with her wonderfully woven saree...and there are deep valleys, like some people s hearts ( Remember: Odum nadhi aazham illa, adhu serum kadal aazhamilla
aazham idhu ayya andha pombala manasu thaan ya !!)
I am searching the god to give a title to honour, where is he?
The sights of mountain, tell me its the "Rule of God"..

For the quality of words, its kannadaasan and for the extensive imagination it is Vairamuthu..

But when u hear the songs, dont forget it is Ilayaraaja's tunes all along....
